Whatever the Spores are, they cause a dual status effect; the Hate Plague effect itself, mimics not only Berserk, but a particular form of Confuse status effect known as Entice (or Charm, in SNES version) from Final Fantasy VI. Regular confuse can be dissipated by a physical attack. Entice/Charm cannot. This also means that the Matrix must contain the ability to cure status effects, in the manner of Esuna/Remedy.
